Artists in Residence at Fulton Center

In collaboration with Art on the Ave and Westfield, SRF will be participating in Creative Spaces, an Art on the Ave initiative that aims to transform Fulton Center into a cultural hub where art and community meet.

Art on the Ave and Westfield partnered in 2021 to reimagine and repurpose a vacant storefront as a studio space for working artists to create public art. After a successful exhibition in 2021, Art on the Ave and Westfield are partnering with SRF to continue to add color, joy and inspiration to your daily commute.

Starting July 6th, members of SRF will be activating a studio space located in Fulton Center as artists in residence. For four months, passersby can observe the creation of art by SRF and enjoy exhibitions located around the station.

Amir Diop

Amir Diop is a young Black Indigenous artist born and raised in Brooklyn, New York City. During the global pandemic, and following the killing of George Floyd, Amir took to the streets of Soho to express his rage of injustice through art. He painted on the plywood boards that covered the windows of retail shops. He met others, who during this time of isolation and frustration, found calm and beauty in creating murals. Amir enjoys painting collaboratively and sharing ideas and stories with other painters and the public. Amir is co-founder of SRF.

Sule

Born and raised in New York City, Sule is a painter, designer, illustrator, and muralist. A politically-conscious artist, Sule uses art to express his emotions about societal problems and injustice. Following the BLM uprising in the spring of 2020, Sule joined other artists who were painting on the plywood boards covering Soho storefronts. These boards became canvases for expression as well “reminders” of strength amidst difficulty. Sule wants his Art to remind people of their strength and help them overcome obstacles. Sule is co-founder of SRF.
